Developing quality affordable housing has been a priority in the City of Bowling Green and has provided economic opportunity and a sense of pride for our residents.
This project was developed by the City of Bowling Green in partnership with HABG and HANDS. Some homes are still available for purchase. Interested buyers should contact Housing Authority of Bowling Green or Housing Assistance and Development Services for purchasing information.
The City acquired several parcels of land in the 300 and 500 blocks of West Main Avenue with Community Development Block Grant funds. The purpose of the acquisition was for clearance of blighting conditions and subsequent redevelopment of residential housing.
The City partnered with Housing Assistance and Development Services, Inc., (HANDS) to construct a total of 24 units at the two sites. The project targets military veterans and their widows and will build a link with service providers to support their special needs. At least 80 percent of the units will be available for persons age 55 or older, at least 50 percent of the units will be set aside for special needs clientele, and 100 percent of the units must be initially occupied by persons of low or moderate income.
This site is located within the bounds of the KRS 99 St. Joseph School Area Revitalization Plan, and the City will retain an easement on a portion of the parcel at 833 Barry Street for future neighborhood stormwater drainage needs.
